A Canadian woman turned part of her house and patio into a big cat playground

Climbing walls, towers, rest areas, walkways and footbridges, climbing frames of all kinds… With this list, one prefers to think of giant gym equipment or children’s playrooms. In fact, this is what the large room and outdoor aviary connected to it look like, which 32-year-old Amber Schram of Ontario, Canada, put aside for her cat and furnished with love, in the town of Niagara Falls.

Mrs. Amber has two cats. A six year old Bengal cat named Jake and a two year old Snow Bengal cat named Juneau.

The woman was starting to come into the house when she noticed how bored Jake was at home during the colder months. “The interior is quite expensive because most of the furniture comes from the US and abroad. There were a few things they (the cats) didn’t really like so I sold them and looked for something they would like more. Every few months I add something new to them, so over the last few years our cat area has really become something special. What started in our living room has now spread one floor into their own bedrooms full of stuff,” a woman who works for a company that deals in legal cannabis production explained in an interview with a SWNS agent.

Cats have many opportunities for fun and relaxation, both indoors and outdoors.

In the aviary, the cats have, for example, several turrets, a wooden bridge, a large scratching post, a comfortable swinging bed and a wooden bridge Amber made herself. There are also plants whose species are harmless to cats. The cages are roofed, so the cats can roost in them even on dry days.

On the inside, apart from another climbing wall and cat tower, you can see a treadmill. As strange as it may seem to someone, six-year-old Jake really likes them.

One of the reasons Amber not only changed the interior when remodeling the house, but also made open-air cages for the cats, is their wandering habit. By having their own outdoor space, sheltered and fun, Amber’s cats no longer have the thought of running out the door every time she opens it, and she no longer has to bribe them with treats to return home well.

Not only admiration, but also criticism

Apart from cats, Bu Amber and her husband also take care of three dogs that they took from the shelter. She has been posting pictures of her cat Jake on social media since she was a little girl. When she started posting photos of her new home, and especially the aviary, she was met with both praise and criticism. People accused him of keeping his cat as if they were in prison, but he refused.

Amber made the wooden rope bridge herself.

“Fortunately, most people think like me and agree that cats should never be left outside unattended. I’ve always met people who think differently, but letting cats roam freely outside is very dangerous for them, regardless of where you live. And they are killing the local bird population. I lost a lot of cats because we let them out. That’s why I now do everything to keep my cat safe and be able to have him by my side as long as possible,” concluded Mrs. Amber, pointing out that if, on the other hand, every owner lets their cat in an enclosed outdoor space with enough entertainment , there will be far fewer problems with feral cats as fewer will end up on the street and in shelters.

Are you going to build a similar outdoor aviary for your cat?

If we have the time, space and money for it, of course!

Only the outdoor one maybe, but to connect it with a special room in the house, it’s too much.

We have something similar.

No, that sounds crazy to me.
