Dmitry Peskov: – Confirmed his son’s war claims

The Kremlin spokesman’s son, Dmitry Peskov, is said to have served in the Wagner Group for almost six months. He himself admits, according to the BBC.

– That’s my job. I couldn’t sit back and watch as friends and others left, said Nikolaj Peskov, 33.

The paramilitary group is internationally notorious for war crimes and other abuses during the war in Ukraine. The group has also recruited thousands of convicted convicts to contribute to the war.

Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Monday that his eldest son was taking part in what he himself describes as a “special operation” in Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian news agency RIA.

Peskov has not commented further on the matter, as it is not relevant to his work, he said.

Peskov previously worked as a correspondent for Russian state broadcaster RT. Like his father, he too was subject to sanctions from the West.

During an interview with the pro-Kremlin newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, Peskov made a confession about Wagner’s participation. He said there that it was his own decision to join, but he didn’t know where to turn.

– So I had to turn to my father… And he helped me, he said.

He was also said to have used a secret fake name.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group, stated that Nikolay Peskov completed the three-week course, and then he went to Luhansk in Ukraine.
