It qualified for the MGP finals

On Saturday night it was time for the Melody Grand Prix’s first dolphin final of the year.

Seven artists contested the first three finals tickets, including Ulrikke Brandstorp, Eirik Næss, Kate Gulbrandsen, Rasmus Thall, Alessandra Mele, Byron Williams Jr & Jowst and Umami Tsunami.

This is what the Melody Grand Prix 2023 will look like

The finals at Melody Grand Prix (MGP) are held as follows:

  • Delfinale 1 is Saturday January 14th in Oslo.
  • Delfinale 2 is Saturday January 21 in Oslo.
  • Delfinale 3 is Saturday January 28 in Oslo.
  • The gold final will be held on February 4 in Trondheim.

This year’s edition of the MGP has already been made make some changesincluding:

  • Fewer and bigger semifinals, with more songs in each semifinal.
  • There will be no pre-qualifying artists and no last chances.
  • The final will return to Trondheim with an international jury.

Arian Engebø and Stian “Staysman” Thorbjørnsen will present the 2023 Melody Grand Prix.

The winner of the gold final would represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) that same year. ESC is held in Liverpool in the United Kingdom.

  • The first ESC semifinals are May 9th.
  • The second semifinal is May 11.
  • The grand final is May 13th.

Ukraine was originally supposed to host the world’s biggest music competition, but due to the ongoing war, the BBC and the UK stepped in.

The first to qualify with a ticket to the final was Umami Tsunami.

– Absolutely unreal, said the boy band about the win.

Finally ready again!

Number two to qualify with a win is Ulrikke Brandstorp.

– It means everything in the world, now I started laughing again. It means a lot. Thank you very much, Brandstorp said from the stage.

This will be Brandstorp’s second time participating in the MGP finals. In 2020, he won the MGP, but due to the pandemic, Eurovision was canceled and therefore he was not allowed to show himself to Europe.

The last to get a ticket to the final was Alessandra Mele with the song “Queen of Kings”.

Trondheim finals

On the following two Saturdays, the second and third semifinals will take place. The actual final of this year’s Norwegian MGP took place on February 4 in Trondheim.

It will then be decided who in May will be allowed to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest which will take place in Liverpool. It has been 24 years since the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) was last held in England.
