Julie Tronerud Kvelvane (17) wows the experts – compared to Røiseland – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

It was especially Kvelvane’s standing shooting that caused the NRK experts to turn a blind eye.

– Shooting standing ducks has always been Marte Olsbu Røiseland’s specialty since he was a junior. He’s pretty amazing at shooting quickly and well. Julie also has great potential and immense talent and it would be very interesting to follow her further, says NRK commentator Ola Lunde of biathlon talent.

This is the first season the 17-year-old from Voss has taken a standing shot in competition, and even resulted in a clear overall win in the Norwegian Cup in his age group.

– I feel very safe. At the start of the season I was much better standing than lying down. I do dry training every day, and I’m pretty good at both, I know, one confident 17-year-old tells NRK.

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT: If Kvelvane does everything right, he can reach the top, experts say.

– I’m very, very impressed!

In his senior NM debut in Alta, Vossingen showed what he’s made of.

In the sprint, he filled 9 out of 10 blindfolds and still finished 28th out of 98 starters, just behind top elite athletes.

In the relay, Kvelvane went on the second leg for the second team to Hordaland. Here he rolled two full houses (with an extra shot) and went number three from the last shot. The team ended up in tenth place.

– It’s a little hard, at least standing. Nevertheless, I felt that I could be in my own bubble and hit the shot I needed, Kvelvane said of the relay attempt.

Expert commentator NRK Synnøve Solemdal uses big words to describe the junior effort from Voss.

– I’m very, very impressed! This was Julie’s first year standing in competition. Being on the last stand with a few errors, then knocking them out with an extra shot – that’s impressive. Those he shot had been shooting standing in competition for at least ten years.

Kvelvane admitted he was nervous before the competition, but he managed to keep his cool:

– I was a little nervous standing on the starting line, but I had prepared well and I knew what I had to do throughout the race. I just try to think about them and do as I normally do.

– I think it was a very good debut. He was just two seconds behind Ragnhild Femsteinevik at the sprint finish. It was clear that he had a lot of standing shooting practice and he was training properly, Lunde believes.

It will be as good as Thinnes Bø

Junior also has clear goals for the future.

– I dream of the Olympics and being as good as Johannes (Thingnes Bø), smiling Vossingen, who attends the Norwegian Top Sports Gymnasium in Geilo.

How will you achieve that?

– Training for several years. It’s no exception to training properly and staying healthy in order to get good continuity in training, answered the intended biathlete.

A WINNER’S MENTALITY: Julie Tronerud Kvelvane has a plan in place to be the best.

Soldal nodded. He knows what it takes to reach the top.

– As Julie said. If you make the right choice over the years, it is quite possible, says the former biathlete.

Lunde also believes that anything is possible, but remembers that many great talents never achieve success in adulthood:

– Everything is really possible, but there is still a long way to go from where he is now so good at 17 years old to reach the highest level. There are many talents who have not yet reached the peak. Julie has a lot of good qualities, so if she does the right things, has good health, and has the right people around her, she can be very good.

Lunde believes the most important thing is to listen to your body.

– It’s about being smart and not getting too excited so you go as you please, he notes.
