News, Sports | European Championship hopes dashed for the J19 national team

Mara Alber sent Germany ahead after 38 minutes while Loreen Bender sealed the result in extra time. Thus, Germany won the qualifying pool and will play in EC later this year.

Last year, Norway made it to the final, where they lost 1-2 to Spain after an extra-time goal. This year, the playoffs took place without coach Lena Tyriberget’s team. Norway has never won the J19 EC, but has been runner-up five times since it was founded in 1998.

Norway lost 2-1 to Ireland in game two and must beat Germany to move past Tuesday’s opponents in the standings. Only the pool winner gets a place in the EC.
