Tourists going to Mallorca are now being warned that the coast guard in Palma will go on strike from Sunday.

– Neither of us will work. If there are deaths related to swimming, it’s not our fault, said lifeguard union leader Julian Delgado.

He represents about 50 lifeguards employed on beaches in the municipality of Palma.

People are still allowed on the beach and in the sea, but it will be at their own risk. The coast guard is usually on duty from 11.00am to 7.00pm daily.

The strike covered all of Palma’s beaches, including the stretch known as Ballermann, which is hugely popular with foreign tourists.

Weights were hit on the head with a glass bottle

A security guard at Jessheim in Ullensaker was hit on the head with a glass bottle outside a nightclub on Saturday night.

– We mastered both. The victim did not suffer serious injuries, but still had a cold in the head. The two involved were evicted from the city center, said operations manager Joakim Ormåsen Romeriks Blad.
