They designed the electric formula at the University of Brno. A team of students leads a woman Education News Brněnská Drbna

Brno University of Technology (BUT) students have spent the last nine months designing and building a formula. The Dragon e2 was born as the first electric engine, completely out of the design of innovator Brno. In addition, a woman has led the team this year.

The electric formula from the University of Brno workshop will be brought to the racing circuit on the occasion of the Formula Student world competition series. Therefore, students from TU Brno Racing started the engine design stage last September. It took a total of four months. “The design must really be elaborated in detail. Everything written on it must be in the car,The group leader explains Ema Zanovawho historically was the first woman to lead a student formula team in the Czech Republic.

Weight: 174 kg
Top speed: 120 km/h
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h: 3.0 s

The car, which was made by students at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for more than forty thousand hours, consisted of castings and engine parts of his own production. Team members only need to purchase seat belts, tires or connectors. However, procuring some components is complicated due to the shortage of goods worldwide.

“Although we have a Plan B for each solution, sometimes we have to come up with a Plan F. For example, when we design a car cabling, the delivery time is two and a half weeks, when we order parts, the delivery time is nineteen weeks.” said Záňová, adding that this was one of the reasons why there was no chance to properly test the car.

Last year, the TU Brno Racing team finished among the electric formulas in the 36th world ranking of the Student Formula competition and this year they believe in improvement. The task of the group is to design, create and test the monopost formula on races within one year. The competition, which Brno students have participated in since 2010, evaluates engineering approaches, considering production costs, business skills or car performance and safety.
