The tourist places of Aguascalientes let us see their cultural identity as a guava-producing town, of enormous Catholic faith and of a great railroad tradition. Its name is due to the important presence of hot springs with which it used to count, and today when we take one of the flights to Aguascalientes, we are traveling to a city full of iconic places for history and culture. Some of these transport us to past times and others give us a quite relaxing environment perfect to rest.
This is a theme park located very close to the center of the city, which takes as its main tourist theme the drilling that resulted from the attempt to build an underground hydraulic system. The drilling that was done at the beginning of the work left a route of 7 meters underground, which today includes exhibits of fossils of mammoth, bison, mastodons and other prehistoric animals that have been found in the vicinity.
This place is a natural reserve with more than 112 thousand hectares of extension; in this are forests of pines and oaks, as well as a varied fauna that includes animals such as the golden eagle, the puma, the white-tailed deer and the cacomixtle. In addition, the space was adapted so that you can practice mountain biking, observation walks and sport fishing.
The Broken Christ of the dam
This is a sculpture of 28 meters high located in the center of the President Calles Dam, in the municipality of San José de Gracia. It is a work inspired by a sculpture, which according to popular belief, arrived in a wooden box on the back of a mule to the people; the great sculpture was given a high level of faith that remains to this day.
The Parish of the Señor Del Salitre
This temple was built between 1772 and 1884, has an altar covered with gold and has the second largest dome in Latin America. The legend tells, that the couple Lopez de Nava dreamed of having a special crucifix in their house, one day two strange visitors came asking for an inn and noticed the couple’s taste for these figures, when they heard that the Lopez de Nava were looking for a unique piece, they offered to make the crucifix they were looking for. The next day the strangers were not there, but a beautiful crucifix that they wanted to donate to Zacatecas, but it was impossible to move it due to its great weight so it was donated to the temple that was about to be finished.
This museum was founded in 2003 in the old railway station of the city inaugurated in 1911. In it, almost 10 thousand pieces of objects related to the railroad activity are exhibited, such as locomotives, wagons, rails, among others. There are also testimonies of people who worked there; the building retains its original facade to respect the style of the time.
