Ukraine: – Withholding money: – Too bad

There are still no plans to provide further Norwegian financial support to Ukraine.

After Russia invaded the country, the government of Støre had given two billion kroner to the war-torn country. But so far, the government has spent more money in Norway than in Ukraine, after the war broke out.

– I think it’s too bad. We have every opportunity to help more, FRP leader Sylvi Listhaug told Dagbladet.

Some estimates say that rising oil prices will give the state of Norway NOK 1,750 billion additional revenue this winter.

– We have a very large aid budget where we now have to redirect to humanitarian aid and send it to Ukraine. There, I think the government is paralyzed. We should be more advanced, the FRP leader added.

– Send more money, Jonas

Liberal Party leader Guri Melby agreed that more Norwegian money should be sent to Ukraine.

– We want to give Ukraine a billion kroner that the country can use to buy weapons. Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova also need a “Marshall Plan” to get them straight into the EU, Melby said.

KrF also wants to spend more money on Ukraine, among other things to accept more refugees from the country.

– I also think that we should be able to commit to a much larger amount than two billion. I look forward to more to come, said MDG leader Une Bastholm.

– It seems like it’s a political question whether to send more, and then my clear message to the government is that we expect more to come. We must remember here that we are a country that is now benefiting from a war with rising oil prices, Bastholm continued.

Shop: – Continuous evaluation

But Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Labor Party) has no immediate plans to send money to Ukraine.

– Why doesn’t Norway give more support to Ukraine, Støre?

– Norway is probably one of the countries most willing to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. We will follow suit in the future, but I think we are doing well out there and we know that help will come. “When it comes to other types of aid to Ukraine, we have it for ongoing assessment,” Støre told Dagbladet.

– Not enough

Sylvi Listhaug and Frp responded to the Prime Minister by saying that “continuing to consider” sending more money was not good enough.

– Norway has given two billion kroner in humanitarian aid, is that enough?

– No, we’ve been saying for a long time that it’s not enough. Therefore, we have signaled that another three billion kroner must be found, which we send out in development assistance. Both about supporting neighboring countries that are now accepting millions of refugees from Ukraine, and also about bringing food and medicine into Ukraine for those who have not fled there. It had to happen quickly, Listhaug said.

This three billion is in addition to the one billion that the FRP will give Ukraine to buy weapons.
