Up to 13,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since the start of the war, Podoljak said

The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Mykhailo Podoljak, announced that 10,000 to 13,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died since the start of the invasion. The Ukrainian army has yet to confirm his words.

According to the agency Reuters it is the first estimate of the number of soldiers killed since late August, when armed forces commanders said nearly 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died on the battlefield. Podoljak announced in June that 100 to 200 Ukrainian soldiers were killed on the battlefield every day.

The top US general, Mark Milley, estimated last week that around 100,000 Russian troops and 100,000 Ukrainian troops have been killed or wounded since the war began. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke of the 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers who died in a video speech on Wednesday. But a spokesman for the commission later said that the information was inaccurate and that the figure referred to the number of soldiers killed and wounded.

“We are talking openly about the death toll,” Podoljak emphasized in an interview with the Ukrainian channel Channel 24. “We have official assessments from the General Staff, official assessments from the Commander-in-Chief Mr. Zelensky, and they range from 10,000 to 12,500-13,000 dead, ” he added, that more soldiers were injured than killed.

According to Podoljak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will publish official data “when the time is right”.

About Bachmut

Bakhmut Ukraine, located in the Donetsk region, has been a site of devastation, where the armies of both countries bled, roughly nine months after the start of the war. Both sides have been sending heavy troops and material here for months: the Russians are trying to take the town, the Ukrainians are trying to hold it. They also succeeded thanks to the extensive defensive fortifications.

Podoljak also commented on the issue of the fall of civilians. He announced that their numbers could be “significant”.

Station BBC managed to identify around 3,600 civilian deaths in Ukraine as of mid-June. However, he pointed out that the number may be much higher now.

The head of Ukraine’s presidential office also stated how many Russian troops were missing, according to Kiev. He claimed the number of Russian soldiers who died was as high as 100,000, another 100,000 to 150,000 he said were injured or missing or unable to return to battle.

According to the Russian mutation of the BBC station it’s off in Ukraine since the start of the invasion at least 9311 soldiers of all levels. However, the number of soldiers who fell could be as high as 18,600.

Oleksiy Arestovych, adviser to the head of Ukraine’s presidential office, said on Wednesday that the number of Russian casualties was about seven times higher than that in Ukraine.
