On Saturday, police closed the entrance to the center of Špindlerův Mlýn in the Krkonoše mountains to visitors’ cars, where the World Cup in women’s alpine skiing is taking place this weekend. The parking lot in the center is full. This was stated by police spokeswoman Šárka Pižlová. Visitors should park another car at Vrchlabí, from where a free shuttle will take them to Špindlerův Mlýn.

Only vehicles with previously issued permits are exempt from entering the center.

“We closed the entrance to Špindlerův Mlýn at the checkpoint in Herlíkovice near Vrchlabí. Cars that were already on their way to Špindlerův Mlýn at the time of closing, were parked on the road near the Špindlerův dam,” the spokesman said.

However, between 08:30 and 09:00, traffic to Špindlerův Mlýn through the Herlíkovice barrier greatly thickened and lines of permitted standing cars formed. Buses also got stuck in the convoy, and police then gave them priority lane. By 10.00, the convoy gradually started moving and traffic between Vrchlabí and Špindlerův Mlýn was smooth, the spokesman said.

Other drivers with a permit park mainly on the closed II/295 road on the way to Vrchlábí and in the parking lot of the sports complex in the Vejsplachy region. “The Vejsplachy parking lot was full before 10.30 and now we will park the car on the Vrchlabí bypass,” the spokesperson said.

From the parking lot in Vrchlabí, buses to Špindlerův Mlýn, apart from race visitors, also take people who come to Špindlerův Mlýn to ski. In Špindlerův Mlýn, only the black piste at Svátý Petar is closed due to the World Cup. Other slopes are available for recreational skiers.

The operation of the cable car in the Medvědín – Horní Mísečky region this morning was limited by heavy frost. The cable car on Horní Mísečky was out of action for about an hour, and in the morning the cable car from Špindlerův Mlýn to Medvědín was still not working. Just today, the ski lift in the center launches a cable car with the slopes of Labská.

The shuttle bus stop is within a 400 meter walk from all the temporarily constructed parking lots. After the hike in Špindlerův Mlýn, racegoers and recreational skiers can head to St. Peter by foot or using the shuttle bus that runs around town.

Drivers can pass through the closed section of road II/295 with temporary parking via Pražská and Valteřická streets in Vrchlab.
