Barcelona is investigating a new case of racism against Vinicius
Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior is said to have been the target of racial incitement again during Saturday’s El Clásico match in Spanish football.
Via messaging service X, Barcelona stated that the club would investigate any incidents of racism that may have occurred during the match against Real Madrid.
– FC Barcelona will always maintain football values, such as respect for opponents, the statement read.
Spanish media have published a video allegedly showing a Barcelona fan calling Vinicius Junior a “monkey” and an object resembling a banana peel being thrown at the Real winger.
Vinicius has repeatedly been the target of racism from the stands during football matches. Last weekend, a spectator was thrown out of the stadium after inciting the Brazilian.
Earlier this month, Vinicius testified in court about racism towards him in a match against Valencia last season. And in Brazil, a separate anti-racism law, the “Vini Jr Law”, is named after him. This rule was adopted to allow the suspension of sporting events in Rio de Janeiro if racism occurs during the event. (NTB)
