The good mood at a discotheque in Murcia, Spain, was ended early Sunday morning by a fire that quickly spread throughout the packed building. The accident claimed at least 13 lives.
One night at a dance club in Murcia in southern Spain turned into a tragedy. At around six o’clock local time, a fire broke out at a business called the Teatre. The club was still full of people at that time.
The fire quickly spread throughout the discotheque building, and when firefighters arrived, the building was completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters only managed to enter the building at around eight in the morning, two hours after the fire was reported to them. It was not possible to go inside earlier due to the personal safety of the firefighters themselves, the portal wrote Local environment.
The accident claimed several lives. Firefighters have so far found 13 people who failed to escape the flames. “We are absolutely devastated by this news,” he said BBC Murcia Mayor José Ballesta.
He also declared three days of mourning in the city and offered his condolences to the families of the victims. It is not yet known exactly what caused the deadly fire.
The city of Murcia is located in the south of Spain, not far from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the popular tourist destinations visited by many visitors even outside the main season.
