Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard is in the process of shaking off the hip problem that has kept him out of the starting XI in the last two games.

This was stated by manager Mikel Arteta at a press conference Friday morning.

The Norwegian started on the bench against Sheffield United (Premier League) and in midweek against West Ham in the league cup. Then he came on towards the end and scored the team’s consolation goal.

– We have tried to manage his workload since he felt a small problem. He felt better over the past few days, so he would train today. If he feels good, then he is ready, said Arteta.

Recently, teammate Bukayo Saka revealed to VG that Ødegaard was playing through pain due to a hip problem.

Ødegaard has recorded five goals and one assist in the first 15 games of the season. Last year, he scored 23 goals in 45 games.

Arsenal will host Newcastle for an evening clash at St James’ Park on Saturday. Eddie Howe’s men picked up a solid 3-0 away win over Manchester United in the League Cup.

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are second in the Premier League table after the first ten rounds, two points behind league leaders and arch-rivals Tottenham.
