The Vatican suppressed concerns about the Pope's health, saying he does not have pneumonia

On Sunday, Pope Francis did not say the noon Angelus prayer from the window of his study in St. Peter's Square as usual, but only appeared in television broadcast. He attributed it to a “pneumonia problem.” When he raised his right hand to his left lung while explaining, it was seen that there was an IV in it.

However, on Monday, the Vatican press office he stressed, that a weekend CT scan ruled out classic pneumonia. According to detailed information, the Pope is suffering from “pneumonia”, but has no temperature and is recovering.

“The Pope's condition is good and stable. “He has no fever and his breathing is clearly improving,” said Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni.

For eighty-six-year-old František, infections of the respiratory system are a risk not only because of his older age, but also because part of his lung was operated on in his youth.

In his televised address Sunday, the Pope limited himself to a brief prayer. His accompanying eulogy was read by the Italian priest Paolo Braida, who often prepared the text for him. At the same time, through his aides, the Pope said he was still looking forward to traveling to the UN climate summit in Dubai on December 1.

František has been hospitalized twice this year. In April, he was taken to Gemelli Hospital after he experienced breathing problems during a public audience. Examination showed that he had bronchitis. The pope received an antibiotic infusion and spent three days in hospital.

In June, he was hospitalized again for abdominal hernia surgery. Apart from that, František also suffered from other illnesses, such as sciatica or knee problems.

Update: We have added more detailed information from the Vatican about the Pope's diagnosis.
