Great fear gave way to relief. It is hoped that the injury suffered by Czech hockey player, Jakub Kos, is not serious enough to cause health complications for the young athlete. According to agent Mark Vorl, the young man spoke and walked normally. Initial fears that the World Junior Championships medalist could be paralyzed after a violent collision with the guardrail did not come true. It is even said that he could start training again in the near future. However, some hockey players in the past have not been so lucky.
“Kuba is fine. He can walk and talk normally. Any speculation about the end of his career is complete nonsense.” he says Hokej.cz junior agent Marek Vorel. Then the athletes themselves statedthat he now has two weeks of rest, after which he will begin rehabilitation.

The incident occurred in the third half of Finland's second-highest league match between Hermes and Koovee, in which Kos also played. The Czech player's team won 4:3 and the opponent needed to score a goal. The hockey player went down from the area between the circles to the corner of the playing area, where he was pushed from behind by one of the opposing players and the Czech talent's head immediately hit the goalpost.
The defender from Finland apparently immediately realized the seriousness of the situation and called a doctor for Kos who was lying down. They immediately treated the player and then took him to hospital by ambulance. The Finnish player received a four-match suspension for the intervention. He had been in contact with Kos since the day the procedure was performed.
Vorel was also surprised by saying that the silver medalist at the last World Junior Championships could start training again in the near future. “If everything goes well, he will return to play in April or May,” said the agent.
Tragedy changes the rules
In the past, only a few players were as lucky as the Czech representative. In the Nový den program on CNN Prima NEWS, sports editorial moderator Tomáš Vzorek recalls the most famous cases when things didn't go well. Led by Luďek Čajka, who died in 1990 due to a fall.
“Cajka hit the goal post with his head while moving the puck, breaking the first and second cervical vertebrae and seriously injuring his spinal cord. “Unfortunately, he died after 40 days in the hospital,” said Zzorek. The winter stadium in the Moravian city is named after a player from the Zlín team. In response to his death, the International Ice Hockey Federation also changed its prohibited release rules.
A similar offense left Třebíč's former striker, Tomáš Zelenka, confined to a wheelchair for life. “This is very similar to what happened to me twenty years ago. I vaguely remember, I also leaned forward and they pushed me from behind,” Zelenka told CNN Prima NEWS. An 18-year-old player from Germany also died after hitting his head on a goalpost in 2021.
