– It’s amazing. “I enjoy being a coach,” Jahr told NRK.
– We think he is the best person in that role. We are thrilled to finally have a woman stand out as a top candidate on the coaching side. This is a pleasure for Norwegian and international women’s vaulting, sports manager Clas Brede Bråthen told NRK.
Line Jahr (33) retired after last season and, with Anette Sagen, became a pioneer in women’s ski jumping. She began her career in 1999 when she became the first girl in the line jump event at the Norges Toppidrettsgymnas in Lillehammer.
– Fair, but strict
Now she will train the next generation of female jumpers.
– I have a plan, he said.
– We will have collections containing different themes. Physical training, diet, endurance, jumping, technique – everything you have to go through to become a good ski jumper, Jahr says.
– How are you as a coach?
– I feel that I am fair, but sometimes a bit strict. I care more about those who are trying to improve. If they land at a height of 70 meters and I see them trying to complete a work task, that means more to me than them jumping far, but not daring to improve, says Line Jahr.
Want more at Lundby level
“Together with Olympiatoppen and the combined sections in the ski associations, we will try to raise the women’s jumpers to a higher international level, and reach the level of Maren Lundby,” Bråthen told NRK.
This project is scheduled to run until 2022.
Lillehammer’s Hanna Midtsundstad is one of the young jumpers who will benefit from Line Jahr’s coaching skills.
– Line is smart, and knows what it’s like to be a girl doing a ski jump. He knows what it takes. “My long-term goal is to become one of the best female jumpers in the world, and help tick off all the lists,” said Midtsundstad.
Line Jahr has been a pioneer, although she has often been in the shadow of Anette Sagen.
– But Line has the same speed as its length. He has had a lot of experience as an artist, and has also gained a lot of education along the way.
– Dare to be honest
When asked what difference he wanted to make, Jahr was clear.
– I have a lot of experience to contribute because I myself am a top athlete at a high level. Then I heard that it was great to have a girl coaching in a male-only environment.
– As a woman, I dare to be more outspoken on things that men might find difficult to talk to women about, says Norway’s first female jumping coach.
