Nicolai Budkov Kjær is ready for the Roland-Garros final after a wild turnaround
Nicolai Budkov Kjær and partner Joel Schwärtzler are ready for the final of the junior doubles tournament at Roland-Garros.
Victory was won over Timofei Derepasko and Amir Omarkhanov with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 11-9.
In the final they met the winner of the match between American-German duo Alexander Razeghi and Max Schoenhaus and China’s Federico and Rei Sakamoto of Italy and Japan. They will meet next Friday night.
Budkov Kjær and Schärzler had a difficult start to the match when they were broken in the fifth service game and lost the first set 4-6.
However, they came back hard in the second set, breaking their opponent’s serve twice and securing a 6-2 win.
Therefore, the match must proceed to the third set, which is played in a tiebreaker format where the first player scores ten points.
The tiebreak set was a rare thriller, with Budkov Kjær and Schärzler trailing early, before coming back to win 11-9.
Last weekend, Budkov Kjær got off to a tough start at Roland-Garros by crashing out in the first round of the men’s junior singles tournament. The Norwegian third seed was beaten 6-1, 6-3 by qualifier Henry Bernet of Switzerland. (NTB)
