VIKERSUND: Vikersundbakken is the world’s largest ski slope, with a K point of 195 meters. It will now be moved to 200 meters to make the ground surface longer. Vikersundbakken was upgraded after last year’s WC test, and will become the world’s largest ski jumping hill.
FIS positive
– This means that jumpers can jump five meters before the judges need to judge their speed, which will result in longer jumps on average. What we want is to facilitate long jumps without breaking the rules, which will have a positive impact on society, says Halvor Hartz, chairman of Skiflygning Vikersund AS.
According to Hartz, two excavators and a bulldozer are in the ground. The chairman is waiting for confirmation from FIS for the expansion of the hill.
– FIS is positive about moving the k-point, so it’s just a formality, Hartz told dt.no.
Hill record
In February last year, Johan Remen Evensen set a world record with a jump of 246.5. Press manager Geir Holen at Skiflygning Vikersund believes the stage is set for a new record in the World Cup which takes place on the last weekend of January.
– If all the conditions and circumstances are right, such as speed, the jumpers’ daily form and the weather, you can see a new hill descent record with a k-point movement, Holen said.
Hartz Chairman has received a positive response from show jumping star Anders Jacobsen.
– Anders Jacobsen was here last week and then he said you can jump 250 meters here, said Hartz.
