Shaking up second place in the table – first series win since May
Table runners-up Rosenborg visit Stabæk in the 17th round of the Toppserien on Saturday. The hosts are chasing much-needed points, as they have not won a top-flight game since May.
The visitors started brightly, with a great chance for Matilde Rogde. Stabæk gradually played more of the game and had more chances, but Rosenborg pressed them again.
– They just lie and wait, says NRK expert commentator Carl-Erik Torp about Stabæk.
Perhaps they were waiting for RBK to make a mistake. Because not long after the hosts punished the Trondheim club.
Rosenborg defender Hanna Dahl should have sent the ball home, but instead it was picked up by Melissa Bjånesøy who started a Stabæk attack. Iris Omarsdottir played a beautiful pass to Emilie Østerås, who managed to round RBK goalkeeper Rugile Rulyte who looked completely frozen.
– Too simple in Rosenborg’s eyes, but absolutely incredible for Stabæk, Torp said and continued:
– It doesn’t mean they’re not worthy, they’re the ones who control the ball the most.
The goal scorer himself was very happy.
– It was very, very delicious. We were pressed a little bit, then we caught them making a mistake and that was good, Østerås told NRK.
The score gave Stabæk renewed confidence and they continued to threaten RBK’s goal, but the score remained 1-0 at half-time.
After the break, Rosenborg went in search of an equaliser and Cesilie Andreassen came close to scoring in the 62nd minute. However, minutes later, the hosts hit back and Bjånesøy scored her 99th goal for Stabæk after being assisted by Omarsdottir.
Despite a determined effort and some big chances, the table runners-up were never able to cut it down, and Stabæk could celebrate their first three points in the Toppserien since May 25.
