Solbakken and Sparta Prague ready for Champions League
There could be a championship match at the Markus Solbakken this autumn after Sparta Prague beat Malmö in qualifying 4-0 on aggregate.
The Norwegian was an unused substitute in Tuesday’s game. Solbakken was traded from Viking to Sparta in January, and he played heavily in a spring that culminated in a league gold medal in the Czech Republic.
Sparta had a 2-0 lead from last week’s away meeting, and they could have broken the game open when they were awarded a penalty after 18 minutes on Tuesday.
However, Veljko Birmancevic missed the spot-kick. Eight minutes later, Anders Christiansen did the same for Malmö, and the score remained goalless.
For Malmö, Lasse Berg Johnsen and Colin Rösler started Tuesday’s game, while Erik Botheim was substituted in the 58th minute in search of a goal. Oliver Berg remained on the bench for the reigning Allsvenskan champions.
It was a tough game for Malmö in the Czech Republic. Sparta were awarded another penalty in the 79th minute, and this time Lukas Haraslin scored. Therefore, there is no doubt who will qualify for the most prestigious tournament in European Football.
Albion Rrahmani doubled the lead three minutes later to seal a 4-0 aggregate win (NTB).
