00:00. Zelensky: The war cannot end if Ukrainian children remain in Russia

The war cannot end as long as Ukrainian children remain in Russia, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking in Reykjavik at the world’s oldest parliament – the Icelandic Althing, which first met in 930.

Zelensky recalled that Russia deported tens of thousands of Ukrainian minors from the occupied territories.

This is one of the many reasons why this war cannot just end with silence on the front lines

– emphasized the president in the Nordic Council, formed by Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.

The Ukrainian leader expressed his belief that justice must be served to the millions of his citizens whose towns and villages were destroyed and prevented

repetition of Russian aggression.

This requires the full restoration of the force of international law and the UN Charter

– he pointed out. He added that “we must guarantee Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and restore public security.”

Zelensky thanked the prime ministers of Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, as well as other partners for their “willingness to implement the winning plan put forward by Ukraine.”

This is a clear and powerful voice that can force Russia towards peace

– he emphasized.

Yesterday I spoke with your (Nordic) prime minister about this and defense, about our joint (weapons) production, about geopolitical and economic issues, about everything that gives strength.

– said the Ukrainian president.

He called on the leaders of the Nordic countries and other allies to cooperate further.

I urge you to continue to apply pressure on Russia, implement effective sanctions, stop Russia’s rapidly growing aggression, and equip our troops with the necessary weapons.

– he announced.

He detailed that Ukraine needs air defense systems and microprocessors.

Referring to Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, he stressed that the Ukrainian state “deserves to be a member of the EU and NATO.”

I thank you for supporting your country (the Nordics) on its journey towards geopolitical sovereignty

– he said in conclusion.

In Reykjavik, where the summit of the Nordic Council, the cooperation organization between the Nordic countries, is taking place from Monday (it will meet until Thursday), Zelensky was a special guest. The slogan of this year’s session is “Peace and security in the Arctic region.” Due to the visit of the Ukrainian president, the previously planned agenda was changed and extraordinary security measures were taken in the Icelandic capital.
