OLOMOUC REGION – More than 2,200 people in the Olomouc Region are taking part in the April 10,000 Step Call. The announcement of the ceremonial results, which took place on Tuesday 31 May in Velká Bystřice, was attended by Jan afařík, Deputy Governor of the Olomouc Region for Regional Development, Spatial Planning and Rural Development.
“That was just our concern at the time. I speak from personal experience. When you come home after a long day at work, you don’t want to go anywhere. That challenge is what motivates me to walk regularly and also compete in a healthy manner with my friends.” That’s why I became the ambassador for this event, because it directly affected me, “said Deputy Jan afařík.

In several towns in the Olomouc region, challenges became very popular and one in fifty residents took part in them. Most people took part in the cities of Olomouc (613), Prostějov (444) and Zábřeh (257). This year’s novelty also involves the company and the school team. The youngest participant was 6 years old and the oldest was over 9 decades old. The lightest participant weighed 20 kilograms and the heaviest on the day of the event was 196 kilograms.
The purpose of this call is to support the community in regular exercise, which is very important for our health. Walking is the most natural movement that almost anyone can handle. At the same time, it is one of the best solutions for “lifestyle ailments” such as stress or obesity. According to the World Health Organization, they are responsible for more than 70 percent of all deaths in the world. “Exercise reduces stress, increases the body’s defenses and is significantly friendlier to our health and wallet than cars,” adds Jaroslav Martinek of the Partnership for Urban Mobility, which organizes the call twice a year.
