During this weekend’s Aachen SAP Cup, the Allstar B horse injured himself on a grit field. The damage must have been so great that the vet had to kill the horse. Ros Canter is the racer. It wrote several media, among others Horses & Dogs.
In a statement it says:
“Ros (Canter) and Allstar B drove out at the last element of fence 16, after which Allstar B was immediately taken care of by a team of veterinarians. The veterinarian at the exhibition site made the horse comfortable enough to be taken to the nearest veterinary clinic for further examination. It was then decided, due to the extent of the damage, that killing was the only option for Allstar B’s well-being.”
The international animal welfare organization PETA reacted after the death.
– The tragic events at CHIO are not isolated cases. Time and again, horses are ridden to death during tournaments because the riders regard them as sports equipment. Today, equestrian sport has lost all legitimacy because it is run behind unintentional participants, says PETA specialist Peter Höffken, according to German PICTURE.
Apart from dressage and horse shows, Höffken is also critical of grit terrain.
– There the animals are forced out with whips that break their necks. They will never do this voluntarily, because they often don’t see obstacles properly.
In 2018, Ros Canter and Allstar B were crowned individual world champions at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, which saw the British team also win gold.
