The president is unfit to hold office, says his doctor

Senate President Miloš Vystrčil held a press conference where he announced basic information about Miloš Zeman’s state of health.

On Monday, Vystrčil received a message from the Central Military Hospital, where Zeman has been hospitalized since last Sunday. During the day, he consults with lawyers and presents his report to the Senate leadership.

“In the opinion of the hospital, Miloš Zeman is currently unable to perform his work duties due to health reasons. In the opinion of the hospital, due to the nature of the underlying disease, the long-term prognosis is judged to be highly uncertain, and thus the possibility of returning to duties within weeks the next one is judged impossible,” said Vystrčil. .

“On Wednesday, October 13, Chancellor Vratislav Mynář was informed of the position of the Prague National Council on the state of health of the President of the Republic, and he also received it in writing,” added the President of the Senate.

A day later, Zeman was visited by the Speaker of the DPR, Radek Vondráček, who later claimed to have spoken to the President, who was allegedly joking with him and signed the documents to convene the DPR. “I conclude from this that on October 14, the head of the office of the President of the Republic brought Mr. Vondráček to the president, so he already knows that, according to the hospital, the president cannot perform any work duties due to health reasons,” commented Vystrčil.

The Senate constitutional committee will meet tomorrow and discuss what to do next. Will, for example, he will activate Article 66 of the Constitution, which temporarily revokes the powers of the President. “Based on what I read here, unfortunately there is no other choice for us to talk about when and how we will activate Article 66 of the Constitution,” added the Senate President.

The participating senators said that it was necessary to address the activation of Article 66, some of them immediately announcing that they would raise their hands in support. “His letter and words leave no other choice,” said Senator Jiří Drahoš.

Castle Chancellor Vratislav Mynář also spoke on Monday afternoon, but said nothing about the president’s health. He only attacked Vystrčil, whose actions he called media play and hypocrisy.
