Christian Eriksen was nominated for the “Nothing is impossible” award.
Danish football association DBU informs Twitter that footballer Christian Eriksen has been nominated for the “Nothing is impossible” award in his home country.
The award is given to someone who “has done the impossible and struggled in an extraordinary way to achieve an extraordinary result”. Nomination states:
– Christian Eriksen was nominated as a result of the challenges he went through after his heart stopped during EC in 2021, and despite this has returned to the highest level.
During Denmark’s group stage game against Finland, Eriksen suddenly collapsed on the pitch and received life-saving assistance. In the aftermath of this dramatic incident, he left his then club, Inter, as playing with a defibrillator is not allowed in Italian football.
After several months out he returned to England and signed for Premier League club Brentford. There he quickly became an integral part of the team, and this summer he joined Manchester United.
Since then, he has played well for the Red Devils, and was also part of the Danish World Cup in Qatar, where they were eventually knocked out at the group stage.
Toyota, Danmarks Idrettsforbund and Team Danmark are supporting the award, which will be presented at Denmark’s annual sports gala on January 7 next year.
Tennis player Holger Rune and athlete Ida Karstoft were also nominated.
Eriksen has been nominated for “Male Player of the Year” in Denmark.
