Forwards David Pastrňák and David Krejčí of Boston expressed interest in helping the Czech national team at the world championships in Denmark. If they pass the medical test on Wednesday, they will strengthen the national team. San Jose's Tomáš Hertl will not fly to the World Cup.
Copenhagen (from our correspondent) – Boston forwards David Pastrňák and David Krejčí are interested in representing the World Cup in Denmark. If they pass medical tests on Wednesday, they should complete the national squad. San Jose's Tomáš Hertl will not participate in the fourth championship.
This information came from the General Manager of the Czech National Team, Jiří Fischer, who has been in charge of negotiating with NHL players since the beginning of the team's formation. “People are interested in representing and if they pass the exit check they will join the team. “We hope it goes well,” Fischer said.
Twenty-one-year-old Pastrňák has already played at the 2016 World Cup in Russia and last year in Paris, Krejčí, who is eleven years older, played at the world championships in 2008 and 2012. “They are both world class players. We will of course excited when they join,” continued the General Manager of the National Team.
Boston lost to Tampa Bay 1-4 in the second round of the NHL playoffs, and Fischer contacted Bruins general manager Don Sweeney. “He told me that they were having a team dinner on Tuesday and a health check on Wednesday morning. I appreciate him telling me,” said the former national team defender.
Fischer did not want to debate the possible date of David's second arrival. “When you travel from America to Europe, you lose a day. We will not pressure them in any way to be here as quickly as possible. “When the players want it, they will come, and we will wait for them with open arms,” Fischer said.
Hertl apologized before the playoffs
Tomáš Hertl, whose San Jose was eliminated in the NHL playoffs against Vegas, will not fly to Copenhagen. “Tomáš doesn't have a contract and before the playoffs he indicated to me that he wouldn't represent. He told me in no uncertain terms that he didn't want to risk injury. Every year he has injuries. I respect that,” explained Fischer.
The Czech team currently has four empty places on the list, which defender Jakub Krejčík and forwards Martin Kaut, David Šťastný, Robin Hanzl are competing for in the championship places. The coaches haven't even recruited goalkeeper Dominik Hrachovina. The arrival of Pastrňák and Krejčí will disrupt that void.
The situation remains uncertain around Martin Nečas, who felt better after reaching the barrier on Saturday, but not 100%. “We would like to fill those spots immediately, if Pastrňák and Krejčí join. We will see how Nečas performs and what the inspection results are,” Fischer said.
Pittsburgh with Dominik Simon is still on the verge of elimination in the NHL. The latter lost to Washington 2:3, while three other Czech players Michal Kempný, Jakub Jeřábek and Jakub Vrána played in the Capitals team. Could any of them make it to Copenhagen? “I can't say that now,” added the Czech team manager.
David Pastrňák scored one hundred points for 41 goals and 59 assists in the NHL this year, David Krejčí came up with 20 goals and 34 assists.
