Fredrikstad beat Vålerenga 1–0 and advanced to the cup semi-finals after scoring a goal in the first extra time.
The visitors’ Morten Bjørlo scored a free kick, but NRK experts were not impressed with VIF goalkeeper Magnus Sjøeng.
– Looks like he made an extra jump inside the line when Bjørlo pushed. It was a great achievement and it crossed the line perfectly, but it is possible that it would have caused big problems for the goalkeeper, said NRK football expert Åge Hareide about the goal.
Before the match went into extra time, Hareide warned that set pieces would be decisive, and the experienced coach was right.
After 97 minutes of positional warfare, the visitors scored with a free kick.
– I’ve practiced a lot at this, so it’s just a matter of getting the ball over the wall, the match winner told NRK.
– It’s really magical. This is a night I will remember for a long time.
His performance was good, but Sjøeng’s performance was not, according to NRK expert Kristoffer Løkberg.
– He can definitely take it. You need a match winner in a match like this. The right goalkeeper standing in front takes the ball here.
His goal was decisive – and thus Vålerenga were knocked out of the cup.
This year’s semifinals look like this:
* Sandnes Ulf – Molde
* Fredrikstad – YMCA
The match will be played on Wednesday 30 October, while the final will be held on Saturday 7 December.
