2015:
June 23 – Energy workers shut down fourth production unit unplanned due to pipeline leak. The shutdown lasted six days.
August 28th – The longest planned shutdown last year has started. The first unit was closed due to extensive inspection and completion of the investment act, which was supposed to be put into operation on 26 October. The closure was related to efforts to obtain a new operating permit. The shutdown is planned for a longer period than usual, because experts are also checking the condition of the reactor’s pressure vessels after eight years.
September 17th – The power plant has announced it will shut down two units unscheduled to check pipe welds. The power plant said the welds needed to be checked because some of the older X-rays were found to be illegible. CEZ reviewed the documentation regarding a request to extend the operation of the first unit. Thus, on September 19, electricity production at Dukovany fell to a quarter after both units were shut down.
October 3 – ČEZ Company announced that on September 24 they submitted a permit to SÚJB for further operations for the first reactor unit.
October 15th – The power plant announced that the unplanned shutdown of units 2 and 3 will continue for weeks. The planned closure of the first block was also extended due to the dispute examination.
November 24th – ČEZ announced that they have filed a complaint with the police to investigate the circumstances of the poor welding quality inspection carried out by Tediko. Even the chairman of SÚJB, Dana Drábová, has not ruled out filing a criminal complaint; The Attorney General’s Office also filed it later, because they were suspected of committing the crime of vandalizing and endangering the operation of public facilities due to negligence.
December 7th – The power plant announced that unplanned shutdowns will continue in January. ČEZ wanted to put into operation at least one unit that was shut down at the end of the year, and succeeded with the third, which started supplying electricity on December 28. However, he did not have time to do the necessary work for the three by the end of December.
December 9th – ČEZ requested the suspension of the administrative procedure for the issuance of a new permit for the operation of the first Dukovan unit. He justified this by the fact that he needed more time to examine the extended welds in this block and to process the results into evidentiary documentation. At the same time, ČEZ requested an extension of the existing license.
December 11th – The Tediko company, which as an external contractor carried out the inspection of the welds, refused to take responsibility for the closure.
– The Temelín Nuclear Power Plant announced that there were no such errors in the documentation for welding at Temelín that would force the unit to be stopped. The conclusion was brought by several weeks of inspections.
December 18th – SÚJB Head Dana Drábová confirmed that the authority extended the operating license of the first unit for three months, ČEZ can operate it until the end of March 2016. The original ten-year license was supposed to expire on December 31.
2016:
January 4th – The spokesperson for the Dukovany power plant, Jiří Bezděk, announced that the annual electricity production fell in 2015 compared to the previous period by 18 percent to 12.6 Watt hours.
February 14th – Dukovany continues energy production in the first unit, so that three of the four power generation units are already operational.
February 26th – ČEZ asked SÚJB to proceed with the new permit procedures for the operation of the first Dukovan unit.
March 30th – The State Office for Nuclear Safety issues a new license for the operation of the first unit of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant, for an indefinite period. Now CEZ is working on a new permit for the second block which can operate until July 10, 2017. Blocks three and four have permits until the end of 2017.
April 28th – ČEZ dismissed from their positions several workers who were responsible for welding problems in Dukovany. The company significantly reduced the wages of other responsible employees.
May 11th – ČEZ company announced that it will expand the welding inspection at the second and third units in Dukovany, therefore the planned closure will be extended by several months.
June 28th – Czech radio reports that ČEZ has sent Škoda JS, which is in charge of managing the pipeline, a pre-lawsuit request for payment of lost profits. ČE also filed a criminal complaint against the supplier that Škoda JS hired for a background check.
November 24th – ČEZ filed a claim against Škoda JS for damages of 611 million crowns due to a faulty pipeline inspection in Dukovany. The amount is not necessarily final, according to ČEZ, the closures imposed by faulty controls totaled around 2.5 billion crowns in 2015.
