00:01. Funeral of 25-year-old journalist and nurse Iryna Cybuch, who died near Kharkov
On Sunday, nearly a thousand people attended the funeral of Iryna Cybuch, a 25-year-old Ukrainian journalist and paramedic from the “Hospitalniks” battalion, who died in a Russian attack near Kharkov. Per the request of the fallen victims, mourners wore embroidered shirts instead of black, the AP reported.
In April, Cybuch, who was tasked with evacuating the wounded from the battlefield, said in an interview with the PAP agency that the current conflict “is the war of my generation, of people born in the 1990s. I’m sure there’s nothing better than this. has happened to us than a great opportunity to defend our values. I hate war and this life, but this is our reality.”
The death of Cybuch, born in Lviv, caused widespread reactions on social media, where the deceased’s brother circulated a letter written a year ago.
Today it’s all over, my life is over and it’s important for me to live it with dignity: to be an honest, kind and loving person.
– he wrote.
To have the power to be a free person, you must be brave.
Participants in the memorial ceremony included many soldiers, activists, journalists and people who followed the deceased’s posts on social media.
I am very grateful to everyone who is present today, because it means we are united, we are strong, we will survive
– said Iryna’s friend Kateryna Serdiuk.
Knowing that the best of us is dying tears the heart into pieces that cannot be put back together
– he says.
In an interview with PAP, Cybuch emphasized how difficult it was to face the predictions of “domestic experts” predicting when the war would end.
Each time this deadline is updated, and you start to find the strength to know how much longer you have to endure it
– he says.
He also warned that although the Polish public “may feel that Russia does not have a significant influence on them, (…) Russian propaganda and the extent of Russia’s investment in information policy (…) are greatly underestimated. This happens in every country, including Poland. He stressed that “Poland must be the biggest supporter of Ukraine’s victory (…) so that this war does not move closer to Poland. And the war is getting closer to Poland every day, although territorially it is not very visible.”
In November, he was honored by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
I am a young girl, just like any other girl in France or Spain. The only difference is that on our borders there is a totalitarian regime attacking the country I love so much
– he said in an interview for “Elle” two years ago.
That’s why I defend my country and I am ready to die for the freedom to rule there.
