Czech athletics has two world medals. But it’s not very good

The golden age of Czech athletics has ebbed. We have been without our most valuable medal for three world championships. Nevertheless, we cannot rate Budapest badly. We got two precious metals and a few spots in or around the top ten.

The 32-year-old javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch, who had saved the Czech team with bronze at the previous World Championships in Eugene, deserved to be dismissed. He was a great medal “holder”. He has a respectable record – silver at WC 2017, silver at Tokyo Olympics 2021, bronze at WC 2022, silver at EC 2022. Five major medals in six years, only one gold still eludes him.

She was surprisingly joined in Budapest by the mixed 400 m relay.Krsek, Petržílková, Šorm and Vondrová won the valuable bronze, which was not diminished even by the final kick of Dutch favorite Femke Bolová.

This is also Thursday’s promise for the future. Lada Vondrová and Matěj Krska are only 23 years old and can still continue to improve.

Radek Juška finished an excellent seventh in the long distance final, Tereza Ďurdiaková tenth in the 35 km run, Amálie Švábíková eleventh in the pole final. Additionally, we recorded some decent semi-final positions. For example, 22-year-old Nikoleta Jíchová in the 400 m hurdles or two hundred meter sprinter Ondřej Macík, who is also only 22 years old.

So the Czechs finished a little better than in Eugene. However, there is no time for complacency. In 10 years, from 2007 to 2017, our team collected seven gold medals and five other medals at world championships. Since then, we have only won three medals.

We will see what happens to the generation that is waiting for great opportunities in the world. For example, the very talented junior eight player Jakub Dudycha.
