Czechs are concerned about the state of the president. The doctor says how is Zeman

Photos of Miloš Zeman from Sunday’s tribute act in Vítkov reignited debate over his health. In some images, the head of state is sitting in a wheelchair with his head bowed. However, the head of the president’s medical council, Tomáš Zima, denied these speculations, according to him, Miloš Zeman’s health condition has not changed and is stable.

The chairman of the Senate Constitutional Commission, Zděnek Hraba (STAN), said on social networks on Tuesday that he had received many questions whether Article 66 of the Czech Republic’s Constitution should be implemented. This gives legislators the opportunity to decide that the head of state cannot exercise his office. Its possible implementation was finalized in the fall of last year, when Miloš Zeman was at the Central Military Hospital.

I have to say that I am really unhappy that there is yet another big debate about the health of the head of state. Moreover, the president must be an active player not only in the political field but also in the social field,” Hraba wrote on social networks.

Hrab said that it was necessary for the Senate to monitor the President’s performance. If it became clear he couldn’t carry out his duties, he and his colleagues would discuss the next steps. “However, it should be added that although I have some reservations about this form of participation in this act of respect, it does not in itself fulfill the norm hypothesis stated in Article 66 of the Constitution of the Czech Republic,” he added. Hraba.

Hraba told the editor of TN.cz that senators did not formally question the president. His contribution on the social network is said to be in response to the many inquiries from the public, which he received following Sunday’s act of respect.

The head of President Zeman’s medical council, Tomáš Zima, said speculation about the president’s deteriorating health was just speculation. “I am in regular contact with Professor Zavoral (the doctor who treats the president). The last time I spoke to him was last week. The status of the president is stable,” Zima explained to newsroom TN.cz. He added that the president’s medical council still exists, but has not met recently because it is not needed.

On Tuesday, President Zeman received Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and his wife Desislava Radeva at Prague Castle. Among other things, the statesmen discussed the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which they emphatically condemned. Next, each of them spoke briefly at the press conference.
