Diplomatic notes for the German Government. Poland filed for reparations? – EURACTIV.pl

Despite information from the Foreign Ministry about sending a diplomatic note to Germany about reparations for damage caused during World War II, the document sent to Berlin did not contain a word about it, according to parliamentary control exercised by lawmakers from the Civilian Coalition in Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the beginning of the month, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the head of diplomacy Zbigniew Rau signed a diplomatic note in which he expressed his belief that “the parties must take immediate action aimed at permanent, comprehensive and final legal and material regulation of the consequences of the German occupation in 1939-1945”. However, he never revealed its contents. On the other hand, a month earlier, a report was published in which it was calculated that Germany had to pay Poland 6.2 trillion PLN.

Strange situation

“The situation is strange,” said the former interior minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewiczwith whom the former head of diplomacy appeared at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday (11 October) Dariusz Rosati and former deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Paweł Kowal.

MPs demanded the display of a diplomatic note signed a week earlier by Minister Rau. Opposition politician received by deputy minister Piotr Wawrzykwho asked them to sign a secret diplomatic document. They refused, so they didn’t see the note.

Sienkiewicz: Diplomatic records classified as illegal

“This magazine is outrageous. Diplomatic records are not secret documents,” Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz pointed out at a press conference in the Sejm. He also explained, in accordance with the Foreign Service Law, the concept of diplomatic secrecy applies to service members who are obliged to maintain this confidentiality.

“Well, the deputies are not members of the foreign service. Minister Wawrzyk said that if we had not signed this document, we would not have read the note,” he said. The deputies refused to sign, so they didn’t see the note. However, they found more or less what was inside.

“The letter is classified as unlawful and they still have to admit that it does not contain the word> and there is no attachment to the calculation of the loss”, he wrote then Sienkiewicz on Twitter. “Clean pre-election policy, not concern for justice. The whole PiS in a nutshell,” he added.

Rosati: This is an organized campaign against Germany and the European Union

However, according to Rosati, anti-German sentiment in Polish society is being encouraged against the backdrop of reparations. “There is an organized campaign against Germany as a country” and points out that “the European Union is practically a tool in Berlin’s hands,” said the former Foreign Minister.

At the same time, he wondered how “a citizen who believes in words” would feel Jarosław Kaczyński and the PiS government”, which indicated that Poland was demanding reparations, and today it was discovered that “applying for reparations is not an application for reparations”.

Kowal: PiS makes Poles feel like horses

“PiS makes Poles feel like they are applying for reparations,” says Paweł Kowal. He points out that although the note mentions “other things”, incl. “The basis for starting the conversation, arranging some matters, compensation is” saidwhich is the key to starting the propaganda game, not raining.”

“This is misleading public opinion, especially the voters of Law and Justice,” said Onet.

Lawmakers from the Civilian Coalition will now go to court, which will force the government to disclose the records. However, the German government has so far consistently repeated that the reparations case is closed and Berlin has no intention of paying a penny in connection with the case.

Germany considers the issue of reparations for Poland closed

“Germany feels its historical responsibility is limitless. Our eternal task is to remind of the suffering inflicted by Germany on millions of Poles “, repeated the head of German diplomacy in Warsaw last week Annalena Baerbock.

However, information obtained at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that the MP . report Arkadiusz Mularczyk by calculation the amount that Poland requested from Germany is now translated into German and will be sent to Berlin along with other notes.

“The good news is that we have a common future with our European Union, not only our life insurance, especially in these times, but it is our instrument for the future,” the German minister said.
