Senator and deputy chair of the PČR Senate Mandate and Immunity Committee, Miroslava Němcová, condemned Senator Jaroslav Doubrava’s trip to occupied Crimea when asked by the daily FORUM 24. According to Němcová, the upper house of parliament should deal with the whole issue, despite the fact that Doubrava’s mandate ends in the fall.
“Senator Doubrava met with the leader appointed by the Russian occupiers in Crimea. He openly supported Russia’s war against the sovereign state, Ukraine. His comrades supported the Soviet occupation of our country in 1968-1989. It is clear that communists were in the past and in the present. against their own country’s interests by supporting the war aggressor Russia. In other words, they betrayed it,” Němcová told FORUM 24.

According to him, the Senate should handle Doubrava’s trip. The senator recalled that the Chamber of Deputies had also handled vice president Vojtěch Filip’s trips to Russia in the past. He was there in November 2014 at the invitation of the Deputy Chair of the State Duma Sergej elezňak, who was among those included by the EU and the US on the list of unwanted persons in connection with Russia’s annexation of Crimea. “It is necessary to stand up for this, even though Senator Doubrava retired. He betrayed a constitutional promise,” added Němcová.
Doubrava, a senator for North Bohemia and formerly for the Communists, held talks in Crimea with the head of Russia’s government there, Sergei Aksyonov. He told about it on his Telegram channel, published photos from the meeting, notified the server N’s Diary. According to the Crimean parliament’s official report, Doubrava said he represented “many ordinary Czechs who do not support the policies of their government” as well as businessmen who want to do business with Crimea despite sanctions. Doubrava is known for his pro-Russian activities and support for the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He did not change his opinion even after the Russian army invaded Ukraine on February 24.
Doubrava has long appeared on disinformation websites and spread Kremlin propaganda in the Czech Republic. For example, the senator’s text appeared in the Parliamentary Papers with the following claim: “In order to prevent further escalation, Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the two breakaway regions of Ukraine together with a treaty of cooperation and friendship.” As part of the cooperation, Russian troops entered the two independent Donetsk republics to create a buffer zone. I received an email showing the atrocities of the Ukrainian army, which had nothing to do with fascist Germany during the Second World War.”
