The Norwegian women’s footballer will face New Zealand as part of the tier one seeds at next year’s World Cup. The other two teams in the pool are Switzerland and the Philippines.
It also means that the Norwegian team, coached by Hege Riise, will play in the opening match of the championship against New Zealand. The match will take place in Auckland on 20 July.
Overall, it was a very lucrative draw for Norway, although two of their opponents could be dangerous teams to deal with. New Zealand dropped to 22nd in the FIFA rankings against 12th-placed Norway.
Norway are seeded in the second tier and also face Switzerland from the third seeded pot. Switzerland is number 21 in the FIFA world rankings. From the lowest seeding rate, Norway drew the Philippines (53 in FIFA rankings).
Norway made it to the quarter-finals at the previous World Cup (2019). England lost 0-3.

All Norway group matches are played in New Zealand. This will be the fourth time in a row Norway has met a host nation in the WC or EC.
If the Norwegian team advances from the group stage, they will face opponents from Spain, Costa Rica, Zambia or Japan in the round of 16.
Next year’s Championships will be played in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August.
