Egypt: Israeli authorities do not allow the opening of the border with the Gaza Strip at Rafah

The current situation facing Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, under attack by Israeli forces, is extremely dangerous, the Egyptian minister added. The politician’s statement was quoted by Reuters.

The Rafah crossing is the only border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Over the past few days, hundreds of thousands of refugees have moved from Gaza City and its surroundings to the south, near the border with Egypt. On Sunday, American station CNN reported that tons of supplies urgently needed in the Gaza Strip had been collected on Egyptian territory goodsHowever, this delivery cannot be carried out because the Rafah crossing is still closed.

Also on Sunday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that humanitarian aid from Egypt would be transported across the border and distributed to Palestinians in need. The US confirmed that it had reached an agreement on this matter not only with Egypt, but also with Israel and the UN.

As reported by AFP, authorities in Cairo consider providing this assistance as a condition for the evacuation of US citizens from the Gaza Strip.

On Saturday, reports emerged that Egypt, Israel and the United States had agreed that foreigners in the Gaza Strip could leave the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing and enter Egypt. Hamas is also expected to accept this arrangement.

On the morning of October 7, Israel was attacked suddenly from the Gaza Strip by Hamas fighters. The attacks resulted in Israel’s highest death toll since 1973, when the Jewish state was at war with the Syrian-Egyptian coalition. More than 1,400 people died during the nine-day conflict.
