George Russell used to drive lightning fast race cars for Mercedes with teammate Lewis Hamilton.
On Wednesday, Russell found his inner “Maverick” when he swapped his car for a fighter jet.
British Royal Air Force published a breezy Instagram post in which the Briton is seen taking to the skies.
The Mercedes star, currently sitting seventh in this year’s Formula 1 season, was given a crash course in flying in the back of an RAF Typhoon fighter jet.
In the video, the 25-year-old is also interviewed about what the action was like.
– There are many similarities. As a fighter pilot you must have the mental capacity. You must be able to control the plane, and do it to the best of your ability, said the Englishman before continuing:
– You have to look around and see where the other planes are. It is very similar to when we look in the mirror. Or the way we have to see if the tires hold up. You must have a clear picture of the race.
Russell is currently preparing for this week’s Grand Prix, which is being held in Great Britain. He hopes to reach the top for the first time on home turf.
Lewis Hamilton’s teammate was thrilled after his experience with the British Air Force.
– Thank you so much for the opportunity, for teaching me so much and of course for the journey!
He wrote it after the flight.
– When I see teamwork, friendship and skill, I really understand why working for the Royal Air Force is such an honor.
Helga’s Formula 1 race begins at 17:00 Sunday in Silverstone, England.
