Gjert Ingebrigtsen was a guest on the latest episode of Abid Raja and Nadia Ansar’s podcast “Guilt and Shame”.

There, the famous athletic trainer spoke about the difficult family situation that arose.

In early 2022, it became clear that Gjert was no longer coaching his sons, Jakob, Filip and Henrik. It was the boys’ choice because they believed that further cooperation would affect future relationships.

However, conflict arose before the collaboration ended.

– No, it took a long time before they managed to stop it. Rubs and wounds were created, which disappeared in the heat of battle. You don’t reflect enough on how serious the injury is and how deep it goes. You just roar and a new one is created. Suddenly you are covered in wounds, in all directions, says Gjert Ingebrigtsen.

Gjert apologized to his wife’s mother and son, Tone, for getting caught up in the extreme training regime that characterized the family.

– First of all, I would like to apologize to my wife, because she has become an innocent victim in pursuing this goal. It’s like he’s carrying wounds on behalf of everyone. He took mine, and he took his children, he said.

This 57 year old man clearly wants to do things differently. He said, among other things, that he was “should never have agreed to become a coach”.

– I feel like maybe people underestimate the gravity of the situation we’re going through, especially the family conflicts we’re going through, says the son.

Noise and chaos

Currently, Gjert trains one of Jakob’s main competitors, Narve Gilje Nordås. At this summer’s world athletics championships, it becomes clear that there is conflict between freshman Gjert and his sons. The coach himself was not given accreditation for the championship.

It was recently discovered that he would also not receive accreditation for the 2024 championship.

“Gjert Ingebrigtsen has been informed of the decision and the reasons why it was made. At the heart of this thinking is a safe environment with practitioners at the center. “Something we considered impossible happened because the situation had already passed and was between Gjert and Ingebrigtsen as brothers,” read a press release from the Norwegian Athletics Federation.

Ahead of its press release, NRK revealed that the association had to intervene following Henrik Ingebrigtsen’s behavior towards Nordås during a training camp in the Sierra Nevada.

The latter confirmed that it was an “undesirable incident”, and a few days later renowned trainer Knut Jæger told Hansen that he considered Henrik’s behavior to be “bullying and harassment”.
