Brann has long secured a ticket back into the top tier of Norwegian football, but on Monday the adventure season the club’s players will have to mark in their own main hall. The celebration is the highest.
– We have Norway’s best supporters. This is probably what you dreamed of as a kid, to stand in front of them and play soccer, Sivert Heltne Nilsen told Discovery.
– Fantastic. Bergen is “passion”, and Bergen is passion. “It’s great to see the players want to score goals and get this done,” said coach Eirik Horneland.
Grorud’s jumbo table quickly found themselves in trouble, and eventually a goal trickled into a first-half that Brann completely dominated. Frederik Børsting and Mathias Rasmussen scored two goals each, and the home side did not give up until goalkeeper Grorud Simen Lillevik took six balls from goal.
After halftime, Bård Finne made it 7-0 on penalties.
Mathias Rasmussen is now the top scorer in Division 1 this season. He has 13 complete hits, one more than Jonathan Braut Brunes.
– Today is so fun. Fantastic setting to play a fantastic match. It’s a fantastic feeling to finally score two goals. It’s been a lot of one and one destination, Brann’s profile told Discovery during the break.
Chasing the points record
With the win, Brann continues to chase the record for the second highest points in Norwegian football. It has Aalesund, who finished with 79 points in 2019. Brann now has 66
Club Bergen also have the chance to win Bodø/Glimt’s 2017 goal record of 83 goals. Looks like it’s bound to fall. After Monday’s win, Eirik Horneland’s side have scored a full 76 strokes this season.
For Grorud, the road to contract extension in Division 1 looks long.
– It’s lead weight. We’re just being toyed with. We just need to step up. There’s not much more to say, defender Fabian Stigård Ness said at half-time.
It was also very difficult for the YMCA on Monday. The Oslo club are second in the series before the away fixture at home against Kongsvinger. Jørgen Isnes’ team got into trouble there. Adem Güven scored one goal in each half at Kongsvingerhallen, before Mathias Bringaker made it 3-0 after 80 minutes. An own goal signed by the hosts ensured the match ended 3-1.
Additionally, YMCA profile Filip Delaveris received a straight red card following the incident with goalkeeper Kongsvinger.
Azemi and Orban combined
With the win, KIL, who retained their qualifying spot in the table, ensured that Stabæk now holds the second direct promotion spot to Eliteserien. Club Bærum did the job and beat Raufoss 2-0 on Monday.
Nigerian Gift Orban scored the first goal midway through the first half after Stabæk’s superb strike. Azemi’s fitim made it easy for the striker, and after halftime the roles were reversed as Azemi doubled the lead to 2-0 alone with the keeper.
The win means that Lars Bohinen’s men are ahead of the YMCA on a better goal difference with six games remaining in this year’s division 1 season.
Qualifier-placed Skeid could have earned extra elbow room for Stjørdals-Blink in a place at the bottom of the table on Monday, but suffered a narrow 0-1 loss to Mjøndalen. Adrian Hansen, son of former coach Mjøndalen Vegard Hansen, won the match.
Thus, Skeid still has four points for Blink in the back place. Mjøndalen is number eleven.
