Had to run 5,000 meters due to fever – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

– It’s a bit annoying because it’s impossible to behave. That is rude behavior. He tries hard, he doesn’t have to go out and elbow people. Now there’s a way to do it, says Nordås.

With a distance of around 300 meters Nordås tried to move forward. As he was on his way past Mohamed Katir, the Spaniard stepped onto the track and made sure the Norwegian had to stop slightly.

Katir won the heats, while Nordås barely made it to his first WC final in the 5,000 metres. Jakob Ingebrigtsen also managed to advance to third place.

– Any message for Katir after the race?

– No, no. I wouldn’t try to do that. “I prefer to talk with my feet in the final,” said Nordås.

NRK was unable to obtain comment from Katir as of Thursday evening.

An almost incredible miscalculation: – Luck

Thursday’s effort came just 22 hours after the WC final in the 1500 meters for Ingebrigtsen and Nordås, where they took silver and bronze respectively.

In the 5,000 meter effort, a slightly ailing Ingebrigtsen and a tired Nordås expected a calm pace from the start. Both of them also got the speed they wanted.

Ingebrigtsen was at the back of the pack from the start, a position he held throughout the race.

– I don’t like Jakob’s body language. “I think he looked less confident than usual,” said NRK athletics commentator Jann Post 1,500 meters after the race.

In the final lap, the two Norwegian racers were in a good position and on the run they both seemed to be moving forward in a controlled manner. Ingebrigtsen took third place, while Nordås took last place.

Nordås was only two hundredths away from the breakout, having slowed down a lot in the last 15-20 meters.

– I miscalculated. I looked around and got to number seven, but then I didn’t look to the right and along came Chelimo. I was relaxed, because I thought I was in the top eight. Luckily, I was lucky, Nordås told NRK.

– I could have lost my mind just because I didn’t run to the finish line. But I think it’s important when you’re in good shape. Then you’ll get a pole, says Jærbuen.

Sweden’s Andreas Almgren entered behind Nordås and was thus eliminated.

Ingebrigtsen is looking forward to a rest day

Ingebrigtsen is naturally happy to progress, at a distance where he is the current world champion.

– It probably worked out quite well, Ingebrigtsen told NRK after the race.

With a distance of around 900 meters he was hampered when he was right behind Stewart McSweyn who fell.

– I brought it. “I hope they will be left behind, like many less fortunate people,” Ingebrigtsen said.

After that, McSweyn was also awarded the final champion by the jury.

Ingebrigtsen said of Sunday’s final:

– There’s still a lot to see. Maybe there is someone in the field who works harder than me. I’m in great shape, no doubt about it. But it doesn’t help if the body doesn’t like it. But I got a little better yesterday, maybe a little rest today. Now they are two days apart.

In the second round there were also two Norwegians, but both Magnus Tuv Myhre and Henrik Ingebrigtsen were eliminated after finishing 11th and 13th respectively.

– Still not quite 100 percent

Jakob Ingebrigtsen won WC silver in the 1500 meters on Wednesday night. After that, he revealed that he was struggling with a sore throat that he only felt on Sunday.

Before Thursday’s 5,000-meter run, measurements showed Ingebrigtsen had a fever. He revealed this to NRK.

– Have you let go yesterday physically and mentally?

– NO.

– What’s left?

– I’m still not 100 percent. Still a little feverish and my throat is still a little swollen. “I have to try to conserve energy, both in the warm-up and hopefully I can run well,” said Ingebrigtsen an hour and a half before the start.

The 22-year-old said that he did not have a fever when he woke up, but measurements showed that he had a fever several hours before the match started.

– I don’t have much to lose

Ingebrigtsen chose to start in the 5,000 meters despite having a fever.

– I don’t have much to lose. I just had to try. Right now, the most important thing is to reach the final, then finish in the top eight. Of course, it feels awkward to be in the situation I’m in, but right now I just have to try to do the best I can and focus on the task at hand.

– Luckily, the weather was warm, so I was able to warm up a few minutes less. No more than that. I have to try to do the best I can.

Get to know the course from before

National team doctor Ove Talsnes explained Ingebrigtsen’s illness as follows:

– Well then, things are going pretty well. He’s relatively healthy, but he wasn’t healthy enough to win gold yesterday. The situation did not get worse until now and he chose to resign. We’re excited to see how it goes, the doctor said before starting.

– We are aware of this from several competitions in the past, where conditions were less than optimal, said Talsnes.

Ingebrigtsen hopes he can be quicker heading into a possible 5,000 meters final on Sunday night.

– I don’t have the answer myself, despite the fact that I don’t feel 100 percent yet. Rest for a few more days, if I continue… I can run. “I’m in good shape, but it doesn’t help if the body doesn’t play well,” Ingebrigtsen said.
