Half of dogs and cats are overweight, according to Pet Obesity Awareness Day

The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) and the World Pet Obesity Association (WPOA) have announced that October 11, 2023 is World Pet Obesity Awareness Day. Therefore, dogs and cats need to be given enough exercise and provide them with appropriate, high-quality food, as well as an adequate supply of clean water.

Pet obesity rates in the United States continue to rise, with 59% of dogs and 61% of cats classified as obese or overweight in 2022, according to the 2022 Pet Obesity Report. These numbers continue a disturbing trend that has been documented for several last decade.
