A new boom for ten Hags United
There will be no happy New Year celebrations for Manchester United who must hope that 2024 is better than the current year.
On Saturday night, a big club suffered another Premier League defeat, this time to Nottingham Forest.
– This is disappointing. “We didn't play with enough energy, we didn't invest enough,” said United manager Erik ten Hag.
Nicolas Dominguez sent the hosts ahead in the second half, but shaky defensive play gave United the chance to equalise. Alejandro Garnacho took advantage of a wrong pass in the Forest defense, and fed Marcus Rashford who scored the 1-1 goal.
But just five minutes later Forest took the lead again. Morgan Gibbs-White got his sights on and sent the ball past André Onana eight minutes before full time.
Four days ago, United turned around to win 3-2 over Aston Villa in inspired fashion, but on Saturday they fell back into old bad habits.
The guests turned away the sick Rasmus Højlund. During the match, the reviled Antony was substituted due to injury.
United celebrated the New Year in 7th place, nine points adrift of a place in the Champions League. Forest climbed to 15th place, five points clear of relegation.
