On Saturday, the cup games at the World Cup kick off with round of 16 matches Netherlands – USA and Argentina – Australia.
It is special that all five continents, Australia, America, Asia, Africa and Europe are all represented in the cup match. But if the favorites deliver, Australia and the United States will disappear on Saturday.
Many consider Brazil to be the favorites for the World Cup despite losing to Cameroon in their final group stage game. They haven’t done so since losing to Norway in 1998, but then they made it to the final. Then, as now, that loss had no practical meaning. Brazil will be big favorites against South Korea.
Germany, Belgium, Denmark and Uruguay are the biggest fish to leave the championship. Germany faded after a shock defeat to Japan in which Germany created the most chances. No problem. And Japan’s controversial goal against Spain sent Germany home. We ball over the line?
It should be noted that Japan defeated Germany and Spain on its way. No wonder this nation is shaking ahead of the round of 16 against Croatia.
