A convoy of nearly thirty historic US Army vehicles and motorcycles passed through downtown Prague Friday to mark the 78th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Fans in ancient uniforms and random passers-by greeted him on the streets. From Prague the convoy would continue into southern and western Bohemia.
Original carts lavishly decorated with flowers gather on the embankment near Kampa early in the morning. “We ride like this every year. We want to pay tribute to the American soldiers who have liberated our country,” said one of the participants. The convoy then headed to the US Embassy building in Malá Strana, where a band with live music was also waiting for it.
“Today we honor the brave men and women, Czech, American and others, who bravely fought against oppression and persecution. We solemnly remember those who lost their lives in this struggle, both as soldiers and civilians, and we too celebrating our country’s victory.” shared values, freedom, openness, tolerance and dignity for all,” said US Ambassador Bijan Sabet. He also recalled the conflict in the war in Ukraine.
“We are witnessing another attempt by a dictator to impose his will on the free people of Europe. And as in 1945, this attempt must not succeed. Czechs and Americans know what is at stake. Freedom must be preserved, it must be protected, it must be defended ,” he added.
