The World Economic Forum runs from Sunday, May 22 to Thursday, 26 in the Swiss city of Davos. It is a conference attended by the presidents of the world’s richest companies, state leaders from around the world, as well as selected intellectuals and journalists.
This year’s edition carries the slogan “History at a turning point – government policy and business strategy”. As the name suggests, the main topic is the recovery of the world economy after the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Our country has exhibited the most representation of senior politicians. The conference was attended by the deputy prime minister, prime minister and president.
Von der Leyen visit soon?
Portal Interia conducted an interview in Davos with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. One of the topics discussed was the National Reconstruction Plan. Let us recall that on 13 May, the spokesman for the Polish government, Piotr Müller, announced that negotiations on this issue had concluded. Polish representatives and the European Commission will reach an agreement, and the green light for payment of EU funds is only days away.
However, on May 20, European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer said that the KPO approval process had not yet been completed. At the same time, he did not want to comment on whether negotiations with the Polish government are still ongoing. Prime Minister Morawiecki said in an interview with Interia that European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen would soon visit Warsaw to officially announce the disbursement of funds for KPOs.
– I think in a few or a dozen days we will be able to officially announce such a visit (…) KPO today is even more strategic than six months ago. For financial markets, this large pool of external grants – not credit, but subsidies – is exactly what we need to revive investment for years to come, comments the Prime Minister.
“I obey everyone, including Polish Solidarity”
Morawiecki was asked if he was considering the scenario of the presidential bill, which envisages, among other things, the liquidation of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court, to be torpedoed in the Sejm by Solidarna Polska. If this happens, it means that the agreement with the European Commission is lost, and the KPO will not be blocked.
– I warn everyone, including Polish Solidarity, not to play with fire. The financial situation is unstable today, a black cloud is gathering not only in Europe, but also in America and China (…) Therefore, the compromise reached with the EU in the judicial reform situation implemented by us must be acceptable to both. side – the prime minister’s comments.
Prime minister counts on support from the opposition
Morawiecki stressed that during the vote on the presidential project, which will take place in two weeks’ time, he relied not only on the support of Polish Solidarity, but also the opposition. He asked him to abandon the strategy – as he put it – “we will not take the funds against PiS.”
– There is only one reason – Raison d’etat Poland (…) I must admit that I do not understand how the Civic Platform would like to explain that it will not support EU financial support a second time. At a time when we have barbarians at the gate (…) If the European Commission decides that the proposed changes reflect its perception of European law, the PO may not have to worry, the Prime Minister added.
