– If he comes out well, the bunny does the job and stretches the field, so he runs in with the roster and goes upstairs by the bunny, then the time is set to three minutes and 46 seconds. This is a European record, general Bislett told VG and continued:
– He himself asked that time. Then walk fast.
– The English one mile world record is very strong. I don’t want to say that is the goal. First of all, I have to break the European record, said Jakob Ingebrigtsen himself.
The European record was set by Steve Cram in Oslo and Bislett in 1985. Crams 3.46.32 was a world record when set on a classic Bislett night where Ingrid Kristiansen (10,000 metres) and Said Aouita (5000) also scored v-records.
Hicham El Guerrouj from Morocco has a current world record of 3.43.13 – set in 1999.
– I have to come down for a bit. Run 3.46, maybe 3.45, then I can start thinking about a world record, said Ingebrigtsen.
For Thursday night, at 21:50 to be precise, Bislett will host the Diamond League. It will be full, Hoen revealed, and with Karsten Warholm out injured, Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a big name.
– I’m very happy, says Ingebrigtsen and hopes he will be the first Norwegian to win “Drømmemila” in Oslo.
The British mile (1609 meters) is not a championship practice, but a traditional practice in Bislett’s context.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is not far away. During the convention in Eugene, USA last summer, he walked in on time 3:47.24, new personal and Norwegian record. To break Cram’s European record, he had to be down for almost a second.
Phenomenon Norwegian runners plan to disappoint Bislett a full month before the World Championships in Eugene in the US.
– It’s been three years since I ran Bislett Games and the real «Dream Mile». I’m really looking forward to competing there again. Unfortunately I was sick last year, he said and hoped the weather was good and there was no wind.
The weather forecast for Thursday points to the danger of rain.
The hen was nervous for the first 150 meters. He pointed out that there was a sharp turn on Bislett, there were 12 other athletes and if Ingebrigtsen was “thrown out” then he could lose his rhythm. Then the record opportunity was lost, Hoen thought.
– The field must be extended. I don’t see any reason to crash, but I was really scared for the first 150 meters. I hope he lays back down from the start and says up, said Hoen.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has run three competitions this season.
– I’m very happy, he said.
He won the England mile 3.49.76 in tough conditions at the World Cup arena in Eugene on 28 May. The Bislett Games will be his final race for the World Cup.
– Now I’m just going to prepare and make sure that I get “fit” when the trials start at the World Cup. Hopefully I can fight for a medal, said Jakob Ingebrigtsen who can run 1500 and 5000 meters in Eugene.
– If it goes well at 1500 I can also run 5000 meters.
