Ingebrigtsen was blown away by the competitors
Just 12 hours after Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the gold medal in the 1500 meters at the European Indoor Championships, he is qualifying for the 3000 meters in Istanbul. He was far behind, but with three laps to go he picked up the pace and ran easily to the finish line first. The time is 7:56,58.
– I get a lot, especially when I’m lying far back, and there are a lot of people using a lot of effort, so I can enjoy myself a little bit, and be like “now, now someone’s trying”. Then they managed to stand up, which was impressive, but a lot of fun, Ingebrigtsen told NRK.
He himself was calm, with a good body.
– I find it interesting, because they spend a lot of effort on a lot of things they don’t need. When we’ve run two rounds there are 13 rounds left, then you don’t have to start “shooting”, it’s a bit unnecessary, but that’s the thing, obviously, said the big favorite.
Magnus Tuv Myhre is also set for the final on Sunday night, after a time of 7.52.47 in the second heat trial was good enough to advance.
– There are 15 out of 20 who make it to the finals, so it would be really disappointing if they don’t make it, and that’s only a few. I hope tomorrow feels better, said the 22-year-old.
