Ingebrigtsen will try to break a new world record
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has had a brilliant season so far, in which he has set a world best record over the British two miles (3219 metres) and improved his own European record over 1500 metres.
On Sunday, he ran the 1,500 meters in 3.27.14 in Chorzów, Poland, 1.14 behind Hicham El Guerrouj’s world record.
Now Ingebrigtsen is aiming for another El Guerrouj world record. In the Diamond League event in Brussels on September 8, he will try to break the world record in the 2,000 meters, he wrote Diamond League.
El Guerrouj holds the world record for the distance with a time of 4.44.79, set in Berlin in the fall of 1999.
Ingebrigtsen herself holds the Norwegian distance record in 2020, with a time of 4.50.01. This is also a European mileage record.
The 22-year-old Norwegian previously held the indoor world record for 1,500 meters. In relation to the British two-mile world best record, Ingebrigtsen confirmed that he had set ten records that he would like to take. He has confirmed to Aftenbladet that there are (all outdoors): 1,500 meters, one English mile, 2,000 meters, 3,000 meters, 3,000 meters steeplechase, two British miles, 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters, half marathon and marathon.
The 2000 meter run in Brussels will replace the 1500 meter run.
