Israel’s war with Hamas is taking place on several fronts at the same time. Who knows, the most important thing is not the information. For now, the professional imagination suggests an increasingly dark scenario for many analysts. Including the conclusion that we are not close to the outbreak of World War III for a long time. Neither the conflict in Ukraine nor a hypothetical military incident in the South China Sea has as much destructive potential. The reason is simple: decision makers play the most important role there (yes, they use emotions as tools, but they have instruments to control them). Their long-term interests, at least for now, are better assured under conditions of keeping the conflict below the threshold of open war with the participation of major powers. Things are different in the Middle East: the actors are less rational and unpredictable, the interconnection of interests is less clear, and the weapons available are more than sufficient. Therefore, it is not difficult to imagine a domino effect when subsequent countries become involved in wars that were completely undesirable in the first place.
Bloody stalemate
