AIK-Djurgården: Dialogue with fans should prevent the resolution of another chaos
In May, a match between football clubs ended in chaos and postponement. Now AIK believes they have made preparations to prevent commotion and riots.
The Stockholm derby between Djurgården and AIK is a high-stakes match. On May 28, play had to be stopped for an hour because spectators tried to enter the pitch. Only after an hour’s delay did the match finish.
TT has interviewed AIK security manager Henrik Koch, who believes they are ready to prevent fresh chaos at the Friends Arena on Sunday.
– We have had a dialogue (with the fans), said Koch, who believes the match in May should be considered a one-off case of aggression directed at AIK due to dissatisfaction with the club’s efforts.
He acknowledged that there was always a risk of an untoward incident, but believed that conversations with supporters throughout the summer had laid a good foundation for the implementation of Sunday’s more peaceful settlement.
– We agree that we should not play interrupted games, it does not give us any points.
And that point is what AIK needs to escape a vulnerable position just above the relegation zone in the Allsvenskan. The Sirius and Degerfors clubs are only two points behind.
